What Is Addiction?

What Is Addiction?

It has been said that Addiction is a Disease and also an illness which is progressive and if not treated it can be fatal and the 3 core parts of  the progressive illness of addiction are
DENIAL-OBSESSION-COMPLUSION

DENIAL
Denial is the non-acceptance of the sufferer to acknowledge their situation,
Self-belief and self-deception make up the denial and separates the addict from reality
 OBSESSION
Obsession is the routine that becomes a part of the sufferers normal life, it is the preoccupation of the mind where the thoughts of the addict can be so persistent it can render the addict powerless over using
COMPULSION
The term Substance misuse compulsion is the very thing that best describes those who suffer from substance dependencies, the Addict will engage in the compulsive use of substances, even though the consequences from their using completely outweigh the freedom they receive once they have used, the addict uses to alleviate traumas of the the past  and to escape the reality of life and also to avoid obsessive thoughts and withdrawal, and once the compulsion kicks in the addict becomes powerless to stop

AND SO THE PROCESS AND CIRCLE OF ADDICTION STARTS OVER AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN

When a person is locked in full blown addiction, first of all the denial will keep the addict in the mind set that they don't have a problem and that they can stop at any time or handle and control their using of substances

THE ILLNESS OF ADDICTION IS THE ONLY ILLNESS THAT TELLS US WE HAVEN'T GOT IT

When the addict breaks through the first part of the illness and accepts they have a problem they are on the road to recovery
But many people believe that it's the drink or drugs that the addict uses that kills them, when in fact it is the denial of the illness and the thinking that they can get away with just one more.

Addiction is one the most fundamental characteristics of community and social  breakdown, starting first within the family, The illness and disease of addiction can affect an individual family member or at times whole families, either way the whole nature and intention of the disease of addiction is to cause separation and the breakdown of relationships, when family members becomes addicted to substances the illness of addiction then affects the whole family through the sufferers addictive behaviours, such as the self-centredness which lays at the very core of addiction which causes issues like the addict being estranged from children, parents, other family members and friend circles and this can be through such behaviours as thieving, dishonesty, prison sentences, violence and homelessness and then the ultimate characteristic of addiction that every family fears, which is the death of a loved one.
When the family structure is attacked and causes the breakdown of the family unit this can have a massive impact on the community and society as a whole, we only have to look at some at the most deprived areas in the UK to see that  addiction and substance misuse plays a major part of how life is in those communities, but let us not get confused into thinking that addiction affects just the poorer communities because addiction is not selective, it affects the rich man, poor man, and it has no care on whom it chooses, but we need to come to understanding that there is a revolving door of addiction within this country and this is through the fact that the circle of addiction is not being broken within the generations and the true fact is that hurt people going hurting and then they use substances to cope with the feelings and emotions that come from the hurt and the pain of broken lives and also the struggles to accept life on life's terms.
Addiction is the inability to love oneself and others, it's isolation, it is the death of everything that life has to offer, Addition is the enemy of life
