What Is Recovery?

What Is Recovery?

Recovery is the answer and the remedy to the illness of active addiction and a daily reprieve from the Disease.

When the addict is in active addiction it is hard for them to remove themselves from their using lifestyle and the circles they mix in. This means it is difficult for the addict to overcome the core parts of the addiction, which is the self-centredness of the 3 fold illness and because of this through their using they become powerless over drugs and their lives and daily living becomes unmanageable.

The word Recovery brings Hope and the very meaning of Recovery is
 “A BRIDGE TO NORMAL LIVING”

And that is what Recovery offers; life without substances and the ability to handle life on life's terms. When an addict enters into Recovery, they have started to accept they have a problem and have made a decision to live an abstinence based life, turning away from their old way of living and coping mechanisms.

Often, a person that is in Recovery will have a new outlook upon life and this will often come through a Recovery program or a religion. To maintain Recovery from active addiction the addict must put in action to making and maintaining these changes in their life.

When the Addict starts to work on themselves, and their new life in recovery, they start to move away from active addictive behaviours and will start to experience the promises of what recovery brings. First of all is the freedom from the obsession and compulsion of the Disease of Addiction.

Addicts and alcoholics start to find a new way to live, they start to interact within recovery groups and acquire new life skills and practices. There are some that start living by faith and look towards faith to help them live free of addiction. Some work a program of recovery and attend Recovery meetings. Either path chosen will mean the once suffering addict/alcoholic is mixing within new circles and away from their old lifestyle thus bringing transformation when they fully give themselves over to their new way of life. Self-centredness starts to turn into selflessness and self-awareness makes the now recovering addict aware of others needs. They stop self seeking and start to look outwardly and help other suffering addicts and alcoholics to get free of Addiction.

THE MESSAGE OF RECOVERY IS FREELY RECEIVED SO FREELY GIVE
